opening doors 20 The Benford Family Endowed Scholarship Fund "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." – Nelson Mandela We established the Benford Family Endowed Scholarship Fund because we believe that an excellent educational experience drives the success of individuals and their communities. "Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire." – William Butler Yates Latin is committed not only to academic excellence but also to the future of the youth in our community. By endowing a Scholarship Fund, we want to enable any child with the desire and drive to benefit from Latin's extraordinary faculty, resources and facilities, and extra-curricular opportunities like clubs, music, theatre, sports, student government and philanthropy. We are proud to be a part of the Latin community, and we want to see it continue to produce successful students who will contribute to their communities in Chicago and around the globe. We truly believe that to do so we must bring the best and brightest to Latin and give them resources and tools to thrive. It means a great deal to us to help the school provide financial support to talented students to help them fulfill their potential. "Our workforce and our entire economy are strongest when we embrace diversity to its fullest, and that means opening doors of opportunity to everyone and recognizing that the American Dream excludes no one." – Thomas Perez Moreover, the talented young people receiving financial aid at Latin enrich our school community in extraordinary ways. We believe that socio-economic diversity as well as diversity of thought, drive, grit and talent are critical to helping the Latin community reach its potential, enriching all of our students, faculty and administration in the process. We are honored to be able to be a part of the continued success of Latin and its students. Tracey & Ed Benford
