Scholarship Dinner 2018 21 Berland Family Endowed Scholarship Fund My wife, Marcela, and I believe in the power of a Latin education. Latin teachers inspire life-long learning. Its faculty thoughtfully helps young people build their critical thinking and collaboration skills while developing a strong foundation in the humanities and STEM fields. As a political research and communications consultant, I work with clients around the world. Marcela is a native of Argentina and also does extensive international consulting. We see first-hand the interconnectedness of the world. We believe all Latin students receive a better education when they are surrounded by peers with a variety of experiences, and have a curriculum that will help them face the challenges of a constantly evolving society and a constantly evolving world of science and technology. My Latin education laid the foundation for the vision that has inspired me ever since. I received an amazing education at Latin and enjoyed opportunities to learn with and from my fellow classmates in a supportive and stimulating environment. My teachers and my courses helped me develop a strong sense of discipline and intellectual rigor. My vision remains the same. But the challenges continue to evolve. More than ever before, we need to prepare students for a world in which a deep understanding of STEM is becoming essential for everyone. What Marcela and I want to do to help prepare Latin for this new future is to provide support for new educational initiatives that will attract a highly diverse and highly talented student body, and will support the development of an evolving curriculum that allows students to build sophisticated skills in science and technology that will help them become the leaders of the future. We live in a time when many causes compete for our attention and support. Marcela and I believe that focusing the Berland Family support on Latin School is our very best way to make a real and dynamic impact on the lives of students and the future of our world.
