Class Notes Denotes a Reunion year ShannYn Sollitt passed away in October. Lise Weil writes: "I'm very sad to report that ShannYn Sollitt '68 (known to us as Betsy) died October 14, 2016, after a long, undiagnosed illness. ShannYn was a writer and a fierce peace and eco-activist. She founded the Los Alamos Peace Project and four years ago traveled to Colombia to live with and record the wisdom of the Kogi, whose language and culture are threatened. In a letter to me, ShannYn once described herself as a 'grateful escapee, incarnated to do something altogether different โ€“ to make waves and be among the catalysts of transformation.' Her essay on Japanese goddess Amaterasu appeared in Trivia: Voices of Feminism โ€“ which I edited at the time. 'Learning the story of Amaterasu,' ShannYn wrote, 'awakened inside me a gentle, kind and loving goddess who embodies the light-giving power of the sun. How many of us goddess-worshipping, Earth-loving, peace-adoring believers in the powers of divinity in humanity are suffering in our caves, nursing our broken hearts as we witness the havoc, the devastation, the destruction of the very fabric of our world?' http://www.triviavoices. com/amaterasu โ€“ the-great-eastern-sun- goddess-of-peace.html. ShannYn will be greatly missed." We extend our condolences to her sister, Sally Nye Parris '64. Lise Weil has just brought out the fourth issue of her online journal, Dark Matter: Women Witnessing, which publishes writing and artwork created in response to an age of massive species loss and ecological collapse. Read more in Marketplace. Shari Annes Wiezbowski writes: "In addition to my continuing biotech communications consulting focused on investor relations for public and private companies, I am working to raise money for a new nonprofit foundation, e Fund for Sustainable Tomorrows. We're singularly focused on impact awareness campaigns for documentaries designed to inspire action in social justice, the environment, climate change, mind, body health, education and other global concerns. It's a really exciting way to lend my honed skills (especially, writing, thanks to Mr. Hare) to the process of giving back. THEFUNDFORSUSTAINABLE TOMORROWS.ORG is a work in progress now but close to being completed. I'd be eager to share what we're doing with anyone for whom this strikes a chord." 1969 Gail Dugas Ron Pen Stephen Crane Hauser notes: "It is great to be back in Chicago. Saw Jeanette Castro Hachmeister and her husband, David, who are now in Colorado. Enjoyed the alumni [reunion] event with Carole Towne. Looking forward to reconnecting with other classmates. Ellie and I are at Sandburg Village for now, and just bought a condo in Lakeview."
