Class Notes Roman Connections 1970 Susan Harrington Grove Indefatigable class rep Susan Harrington Grove reports: "Still searching for the class of '70 members. My tenacity was born at Latin, and it still serves me well. Before I launch into our friends' bios, I want to acknowledge an alumna who traveled far and wide following the footprints of Lewis and Clark and who fortuitously bumped into Jean Du Sable, who directed Greta Weil to the Near North and Michigan Avenue. More, our brave mate, happened upon our 45th reunion festivities last October. Unfortunately, I failed to mention her presence there, and hope I make up for it here. Greta Weil is graduate of Columbia University and is an architect in Manhattan. She and her husband, Richard Conway, have two daughters who are both enrolled at Harvard. Signe, the eldest, is in the business school, and Augusta (Gussie) is studying history and science. Greta's sisters are also in the North and East. Lise '68 is in Montreal and "little" Kari '72 is the chair of the Department of Arts and Letters at Wesleyan University, where her husband serves as president. Paul Schulze is another smart Latinite. While at Latin, he and Jerry Drell were the only two students who studied advanced math with Charles Taylor. It was in Mr. Taylor's class that they learned computer programming. Paul went on to study at Cal Tech and at U.C. Berkeley Business School. Paul's life travels led him to Zürich, Switzerland for three years, back to Chicago for three years, then finally to the Philadelphia Main Line. During this period, he headed a systems integration computer programming firm. Paul is now enjoying retirement, playing lots of tennis and cooking. (He is a member of a Chaine de Rotisseurs.) He is a proud father of Jonathan, a pre-med student at University of Southern California. He stays in touch with Donny Devoe, Bart Gorelick, John Himmel '69 and Dick Presman '68. Anna Shubik Sweeney says, "Go Cubs!" Debby Cohen-Sall is busy with her children's accessories and book company. Mary Olian was recently in Chicago with her sister, Catherine '68. Margaret Shorey Elliott is still enjoying her grandson, Benjamin, and she spends most of her time between Chicago and Vail. Hedwig Kimmons Golant now has two grandchildren who live in Phoenix, so she spends a great deal of time in the desert. Hedwig, Margaret and I meet for lunch when we are all in Chicago at the same time. Jody Kallis Nash and her husband, Michael, have entertained me a great deal. eir home is the oldest in Chicago that survived the Chicago Fire. It is really a special place with an incredible garden. Jo's youngest daughter, Sarah, is expecting the first Nash grandchild, a girl! Polly Rich Leonardi lives in Columbus, OH, and works in the food service industry. Her daughter, Colleen, teaches dance and yoga. Recently, Polly visited with Margaret Elliott in Harbert, MI, where they enjoyed a beautiful fall weekend. Ashton Lee is married, has two children, and lives near Carbondale, CO. He still works in the investment world.
