Lower School Class Day A less formal affair than the fifth grade graduations of the past, Lower School Class Day on May 31 was a joyful senior kindergarten through fourth grade end-ofyear celebration filled with song, sentiment and a little Dr. Seuss. As a special treat for the Class of 2020, which would be moving on to middle school in the fall, Head of School Randall Dunn customized his own version of Dr. Seuss beloved book Oh the Places Youll Go! Here is just portion of Dunns To the Middle School Youll Go: Congratulations! Today is your day. Youre off to the middle school. Youre off and away. You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. Youre on your own and you know what you know; and, you are the guy or girl wholl decide where to go. So look across the street. Look over with care, and say to yourself I cant wait to go there. With your head full of brains and your shoes full of feet, youre ready to go to that side of the street. Youre fifth graders now. Youll become them today. The middle school is waiting. Its time to get on your way. In her remarks, Lower School Director Sally Ott praised members of the Class of 2020 for their leadership, thoughtfulness, creativity and talent. Ott also shared advice from first graders about how best to adapt to life in the middle school. Student speakers Anne Seaman and Aidan Jagasia recalled highlights of their Latin experience, including mastering the art of lowercase letters, telling time and learning to read. Meanwhile, Kaela Brandt and Ethan Episcope thanked parents, teachers and staff for their support through the years. After the fourth graders received their certificates, the other grades were officially promoted. One by one, each class answered a series of questions based on their curriculum for the year. Not surprisingly, everyone passed! n LATI N SCHOOL OF CHI CA GO 3
