But in the early 1900s, telegrams were used to deliver urgent school news to parents. Following her retirement, founder and Headmistress Mabel Slade Vickery often sent telegrams to Latin alumni, faculty members and Latin parents. 5 Back in the day, school dances were the social events of the season. Latin students dressed in their finest evening wear, and ladies used dance cards to keep track of their engagements. 6, 8 On undated class photos, hair and clothing styles help to narrow the provenance down to a decade.
