Letter from the Head of School
UP FRONT
Dear Latin Community,
As I prepare for our upcoming graduation ceremonies, I am thinking about all that has occurred
during this year. What I see is an amazing array of examples of how excellence and passion
inhabit this school.
The stories in this magazine reveal just a snapshot of what I am reflecting upon . . . a lower school
student living out his mother's wish for him through our musical theater program; a middle
schooler uncovering a previously unexplored passion in an extracurricular activity; an upper
schooler pursuing an area of deep personal interest through independent study work. These things
do not happen by accident. As Ingrid Dorer Fitzpatrick points out in her essay, it takes very
special people with a very special interest in making these things happen. Fortunately for us, it
just happens to be Latin's specialty.
More evidence of the strength of these experiences are the alumni stories. The individuals featured
here are proof that what happens within these walls does not remain at Latin, but follows – and
in some cases propels – our students into the
world and their future lives.
As I absorb all that has happened this year,
I urge you to do the same. Soak in these
stories. Be reminded that for 123 years, a
Latin education has been about students
pursuing their intellectual curiosity and
teachers who support, guide and encourage
them. It is about kids growing into the kind
of human beings who understand their place
in the world and seek to make an impact.
Enjoy.
Sincerely,
Randall Dunn
