An introduction to the song "Gwendete" at the winter
vocal music concert written by a sixth grade chorus
student: "Have you ever had a crush on someone
but they show no interest in you? Well, that is the
subject of our next piece, the Kenyan folk song,
'Gwendete.' 'I love you but you don't love me' is the
translation, which is sung in Bantu, one of the many
languages native to Kenya. Sit back and listen while
the choir sings you this beautiful piece adapted by
Dr. Rosephayne Powell."
