UP FRONT Letter from the Head of School Dear Latin Community, This time of year, our thoughts naturally turn to home. For most, the holidays are the perfect chance to return to what is familiar and comfortable – whether it is the heartwarming traditions of childhood or the timeworn dining table at Grandma's house. We gather. We remember. Latin School, its people and its traditions have a similar capacity to evoke such sentiments, particularly during our gathering for Homecoming & Reunion each fall. During their annual journey back, alumni and former faculty reconnect with each other, celebrate the school and bridge the past and present. (One alum from the class of '61 also used the opportunity to return an overdue library book!) Whatever the impetus, the visit is a significant way for them to recall a key time in their lives – academically, socially and emotionally. Latin is the place they learned to be themselves and shaped the people they are today. The stories shared here are reassuring proof. As I continue the process of making Latin my new home, I am grateful for the immediate comfort of this place and the closeness of this community. I have lived in many places, yet this has been one of the easiest transitions I've made. I know that is the result of great effort on the part of many people. I also realize that you, as a community, would have it no other way. The years spent in school are by nature full of memorable milestones. Whether you are someone who has long-held memories, a kindergarten parent who is lovingly recording each special moment in a scrapbook, or a newcomer, like me, please know you are a cherished part of Latin's shared history. Your connection is significant, valued, and you will always have a home here. Sincerely, Randall Dunn 2 Latin Magazine
