Around School On July 1, 2016, Georgy Ann Peluchiwski became the 33rd chair of Latin's board of trustees. A long-time parent, volunteer and nonprofit trustee, Georgy Ann brings a wealth of experience and perspective to this leadership role. Recently, Georgy Ann sat down with Latin Magazine to share some things that not everyone knows about her, ranging from her "cheesy" beginnings, to her love of Star Trek… I am a cheese head. I was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and lived in Janesville, Wisconsin, until I was 14. I'm also a Texan. We moved to Houston in 1981 in part because my parents wanted my siblings and I to have access to school options beyond public schools. I attended the Kinkaid School, an independent school much like Latin, for high school. at experience was a game changer for me, and I credit my experience there with preparing me for success in college and beyond. Looking for a school like Kinkaid for my own kids is what led my husband and me to Latin. I come from a family of educators. My mother, two aunts and both of my sisters were teachers. One sister is a long-time lower school faculty member at Kinkaid. I am a "Longhorn" and a "Wildcat." I attended the University of Texas and graduated with degrees in liberal arts and business. I also have a master's in management from Northwestern University. I returned to the Midwest in 1991 when I married my husband, Bill. We met working for a consulting firm, and we recently celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary. I spent most of my career in banking and finance, but "retired" in the late '90's and began working with nonprofits. I have served on the boards of the Chicago Children's Museum, High Jump, Impact 100 Chicago and, of course, Latin. I am the parent of two Latin lifers. Leah graduated in 2016 and is a freshman at the University of Notre Dame, and Nicholas will graduate with the class of 2018. One of my hobbies is scuba diving, which Bill introduced me to when we were dating. Wall diving in the Cayman Islands is my favorite. I love the sense of weightlessness and quiet. I think it is the closest I will get to feeling like an astronaut. I also love sci-fi and am a huge Star Trek fan. Next Generation is my favorite. I am a third generation Cubs fan. I had a scrapbook of Cubs players and stats that I would bring to the games my dad took us to in the '70s. My grandfather attended one of the 1945 playoff games, and sadly, my dad passed away in June, just short of seeing his Cubbies win the World Series.
