1969 Gail Dugas Ron Pen Ron Pen remarks on the passing of his mother: "I was privileged to celebrate the life of my mother, Yvonne Pen, in Chicago…in the company of family and friends that are much cherished. My sister Polly '72 and I concluded the remarks by returning to the old Pen family tradition of singing Heart Songs in the living room of our old Victorian home. Deliciously retro and heartfelt. 'In the Gloaming,' 'Annie Laurie,' and 'Love's Old Sweet Song.'" - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 1970 Susan Harrington Grove Susan Harrington Grove reports: "About a year ago I began calling members of the class of '70 to ask for donations for Latin's Annual Fund. I loved speaking with everyone and searching for those whose contact information was not current. It became an obsession, and with each discovery I became more driven. I was saddened to learn that five of our old friends had passed away: Scott Levitt, Jerry Drell, Nicholas Kangles, Seth Roberts and Larry Towner. We have fond memories of all of them, and Robert Clarke (an Episcopalian priest) said a prayer for them at our 45th Reunion. "ere remain several people whom I could not locate. ey include Jill Mandel Condit, Jane Bruere Cohen, Jane Ingersoll, John Cone, Christine Daugherty, Carl Hattery, Glenn Kennedy, Mary Manegold, Glenn Reeves, Rex Richardson, Paul Schulze and Corinne Witherell Vargas. As is historically true about Latin graduates, our class is a group of very interesting and accomplished people. I know that everyone would like to hear from and about you! "Carol Carpenter Anderson is a successful financial advisor who lives in Naperville, IL. She has one daughter, Alexandra, who attended NYU and is now working in retail. "Fred Annes sounds and looks exactly the same as he did in high school. He lives in Carbondale, CO and is active in all sports involving snow. He is in contact with Ashton Lee, who lives over a cliff from him. "Speaking of Colorado, Margaret Shorey Elliott spends as much time as possible at her home in Vail (Avon). Margaret's daughter, Elizabeth, her husband and child live about 150 yards down the mountain from Margaret. Her son, Brooks, and his newlywed wife live about 90 minutes from Vail and are developing a gourmet produce farm. e love of Margaret's life, her grandson Benjamin, is 2 1 / 2 and has become a Blackhawks fan and expert skier! "Peter Bane has been a hospice social worker for 14 years, and he lives in the wonderful historically rich city of Boston, in Charlestown/ Bunker Hill. He and his sister, who lives in Chicago, travel extensively. "David Baldwin is a highly respected endocrinologist in the Chicago area at Rush Hospital. I had lunch with his cousin, Crans '69, in NYC and dinner with his brother, Robert '72, who is a renowned professor of art history and a scholar-genius. "Charlie Bane lives in Palm Beach Gardens, FL with his wife, Anne, and their son, Charles III, who is an accomplished artist. Charlie has published four books of poetry and was recently on the short list for the position of Poet Laureate of Florida. "Debby Cohen-Sall lives in Rhinebeck, NY, with her husband, David. ey have two children: Joshua, who is a screenwriter and who has worked for the National Forest Service as a firefighter; and Jennifer, a registered nutritionist in NYC. Debby has a quality children's gift company where she designs porcelains, books and decorative accessories. She remains an accomplished artist. "Rob Clarke attended the Chicago eological Seminary and has a doctorate in the ministry. He specializes in theology and psychology. He currently lives in Albuquerque, NM with his wife (his college sweetheart), and her daughter. He is a decorated Vietnam veteran and a world traveler. He visited Peru and Kenya, studying native healing practices for his doctorate and spent two years as a missionary on the Oneida Indian Reservation. His work has extended from inner-city parishes to serving as the dean of two cathedrals: one in Fond du Lac, WI, and the other in Springfield, IL. "I spoke with Anna Shubik Sweeney last fall, and she was hopeful that she could attend our reunion. Unfortunately, she was unable to leave Connecticut. She is well and has a number of boys and the entire family is ridiculously smart! "Kathy Kampp Cook and her husband, John, live in Winnetka. ey have two sons ages 24 and 25. John and Kathy own the Whole Beauty Institute in Chicago. Kathy also recently won first place in the children's category of Class Notes Latin Magazine » Spring 2016 37
