"Diane Woolf Tichner reports that she is well, living in a retirement community in Needham, MA. Her children and grandchildren live nearby in the Boston area. Diane and her late twin sister, Ursula, were raised in England, sent to Chicago by their parents at the start of World War II, as were many other British children to escape the wartime bombings. After the war they returned to England. "is year we celebrate our 65th reunion. Let's all try to attend the Golden Romans dinner and other events during reunion festivities on September 24th. Looking forward to seeing you then!" - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 1954 Ken Fischer passed away on January 10, 2016. He was a member of Latin's championship winning football team and remains one of the school's best all-around athletes. After graduating from Latin, Ken earned his B.S. in business from the University of Southern Mississippi, where he was inducted into the Athletics Hall of Fame in 2013. He played two seasons with the Chicago Cubs' minor league. In 1970, Ken and his family moved to Sudbury, MA, where he started his own sporting goods firm, KAF Associates. He went on to open and run seven health and wellness retail stores. In 2012, Ken resurrected an exercise and conditioning product called Hydrobics that he invented in 1998. He spent his final years committed to bringing the Hydro Family Fitness concept to market. We extend our condolences to his wife, Carolyn, his children, and his classmates and friends. We will miss him at future Golden Roman reunions, at which he was a regular in recent years. Irwin William 'Bill' Horwitch died in February. After graduating from Babson College, Bill went on to found Horwitch Insurance Agency. His happy and joyous outlook on life was noted in his senior yearbook, and he kept that joy with him throughout his days. We extend our condolences to his wife, Linda, his sons, and his family, classmates and friends. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 1955 Patrick McKenna passed away on January 31, 2016 in Chicago. Pat was the captain of Latin's championship tennis team and an accomplished athlete and dancer. Pat continued his tennis career at Tulane University, which he left to spend six years in the U.S. Air Force Reserves. In 1958, Pat returned to Chicago and started a career in consumer finance. In the early 1970s, Pat began his 40-plus year career in the personal and commercial insurance business in the Chicago area. For most of his adult life, Pat continued to remain involved in tennis, playing year-round at various Chicago clubs. He loved the Chicago Bears, a nice glass of wine, and spending time with friends and family. He was instrumental in organizing the 60th reunion this past fall, and enjoyed exchanging letters with and meeting his fourth grade Latin pen pal. We extend our condolences to his wife, Phyllis, his daughters, and his family, friends and classmates. Latin School's Athletic Department is pleased to announce the naming of its tennis sportsmanship award in honor of Pat. e Patrick McKenna Sportmanship Award will be given out annually to a men's varsity tennis player who exhibits the traits of good sportsmanship, positive attitude, cooperation, 100 percent effort and excellent attendance, as well as athletic ability.
