Alumni Association Words from the Alumni Association President Fellow Romans, Like many of you, this fall brings another milestone reunion year for my class. I share your feelings of amazement at the rapid passage of time – in my case, 15 years already! I have found myself reflecting, as you probably have, on the many changes in my life since graduation. Some people might have left Latin more or less fully formed; for most of us, though, the intervening time has been crucial in determining who we have become. Life is unpredictable. It is full of abrupt changes, a few setbacks and many unexpected joys. One of these joys, in my experience, is the unforeseeable ways in which people I knew long ago have grown and changed. A classmate who was quiet and reserved becomes a dynamic leader; a brash and arrogant friend becomes more humble and circumspect with time. In almost all cases, people change for the better. I am looking forward to getting re-acquainted with classmates, certain that there will be a few very pleasant surprises in store for us. As people grow and change, so do institutions. I am lucky to be able to witness Latin's growth firsthand due to my frequent contact with the school, but I appreciate that time and distance may make this evolution more obscure for the broader alumni community. I hope that my classmates are able to spend a bit of time in and around the Latin of today. It is familiar yet new. e school pulses with a spirited energy and an overwhelming sense of positive change. It is in many regards a far better place than the one we left long ago, and I hope that experiencing this will be a source of renewed pride for all alumni. In a world of change, however, there are some constants. Many of the faculty members to whom I was closest are still at Latin, educating yet another generation of Romans. I am continually awed by their patience, persistence and dedication to this noblest of endeavors. Whether I am apologizing for some in-class shenanigans or recollecting the way that a particular book, discussion or course changed my perspective, I am immensely grateful for the chance to re-connect with these people who were the caring stewards of my formative years. To those nearby and those far away, those recent grads and our treasured "Golden Romans," and to all who want to come and reconnect: Please join me for Homecoming & Reunion weekend, September 23-25.
