125th Anniversary Edition of Homecoming & Reunion Weekend Roman pride was in evidence everywhere in and around Latin as our community came together to celebrate the school's 125th Anniversary during Homecoming & Reunion in October. More than 650 alumni, former faculty and their guests joined our current students, faculty, staff and parents for three days of anniversary revelry following a festive spirit week in all three divisions. The anniversary festivities began on Friday with an all-school 125th anniversary parade led by alumni and grand marshals, representatives from the girls and boys classes of 1944 and 1948, retired faculty, the Alumni Association, Board of Trustees and Parent Association (all led by alumni this year), former Head of School Frank Hogan and current Head of School Randall Dunn. Students from the JK through 12 and all faculty and staff, decked out in their orange and blue, followed our very own Roman Marching Band through Lincoln Park. While the upper school headed off for their traditional pep rally, alumni gathered in the lower school and Golden Romans had a chance to meet their fourth grade pen pals. Many classes held reunion gatherings around the city Friday evening. Saturday found the action back in Lincoln Park, with a cross country race, Romans Run, field hockey and soccer complete with a halftime faculty flash mob. Families and a record number of alumni gathered under the tents to enjoy the barbecue lunch. Meanwhile, former faculty member Steve Sommers and current faculty members David Marshall and Betty Lark Ross gave alumni the opportunity to return to the classroom as students. One highlight of the weekend occurred on Saturday night, with 500 alumni, former faculty and guests coming together for the Roman Reunion Anniversary Celebration in the middle and upper schools. Never have the gym and loggia looked so festive, or housed such a broad range of Latin graduates. Of the 60-year spread among attendees, 56 classes were represented. Over the course of the weekend, alumni also enjoyed receptions with featured artist Sharon Madanes '04 and prefects, played in the alumni soccer game, and served meals to residents of the Cornerstone Shelter in Uptown. Many thanks to those who joined us from near and far. We loved having you at "home," and seeing your connections renewed and celebrated. Top, Latin pen pals meet. Bottom, seniors cheering at the pep rally. LATI N SCHOOL OF CHI CA GO 125
