Advance Latin's internal organizational capacity and opportunities for academic leadership: Latin is nationally recognized as a school where innovation, creativity, and excellence thrive. With new staff and faculty joining Latin during this time of transition, the incoming Head of School will have the opportunity to develop and apply new pathways and practices that ensure that administrators, staff, and faculty are supported, engaged, and able to work cross-divisionally and collaboratively. Leveraging the deep expertise within Latin's community, the next Head will also work with faculty and staff to develop internal processes and systems of accountability, communication, and evaluation, cultivating a climate and culture of mutual trust and respect. Additionally, Latin's next Head will seize the opportunity to attract, recruit, and retain faculty and staff and work closely with administrators, division leaders, and faculty union leadership to provide professional development and leadership opportunities for new and existing members of the Latin community. Optimize Latin's resources and facilities in support of a strong academic future: Latin's location within an urban environment presents some limitations to space and campus expansion. The Head of School will need to creatively optimize and enhance existing facilities and identify opportunities for campus growth in order to continue support for students to learn and thrive and provide space for community collaboration and connectivity. The school's strong financial position will assist the Head of School in strategically allocating resources toward these goals. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND CHARACTERISTICS The Head of School at Latin must be a bold, proven leader with excellent communication and listening skills; a record of attracting, retaining, and mentoring educators and leaders; and a talent for building consensus, empowering others, and leading an organization with respect and empathy. The Head of School at Latin must be able to connect and inspire others and bring a record of action in advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion at previous institutions and must also demonstrate an unyielding commitment to lifelong learning, including seeking out thoughtful, innovative, and research-based practices within JK-12 education. Additionally, the Head of School should bring many of the following experiences and attributes: • A record of leading and thriving in a complex educational environment; • Experience executing a strategic plan and allocating resources in support of institutional goals; • Excellent managerial skills and a record of collaboration, visibility, transparency, and accountability as a leader; • Experience providing strong and stable leadership during a time of change; • Ability to engender confidence in all members of the Latin community and build trust among its constituents; • Deep passion for, and dedication to, academic excellence and a liberal arts curriculum; • Ability to engage and lead a diverse set of stakeholders and unite them around a shared purpose and mission; • A record of building strong, positive, and lasting relationships based on mutual respect and trust; • A record of supporting and developing faculty and staff; • Ability to build strong relationships with students and support students in pursuing passion, purpose, and excellence in and outside of the classroom; • Ability to prioritize goals and set clear expectations and boundaries; • Experience building relationships and the ability to raise funds on behalf of an organization; • Strong fiscal management ability; and • Humility, integrity, and compassion Latin School of Chicago 59 W.
