OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE NEXT HEAD OF SCHOOL Latin, as a leader within the independent school community, is a school of excellence and desires to take advantage of this moment of transition to look toward its future and the many opportunities for continuing to advance its mission and Strategic Design. The incoming Head will be welcomed by an engaged and dedicated community of students, faculty, staff, parents/guardians, alums, and trustees. The incoming Head of School will have the opportunity to: Unite all members of the Latin community around the school's future: The COVID-19 pandemic served as an accelerant to a variety of issues facing communities across the country. For Latin, this period of duress primarily displayed itself through changes among senior leadership and faculty and the faculty vote to unionize in June of 2021. As a result, the Latin community finds itself at a moment where new leadership is needed to enthusiastically meet this moment and leverage the passion and energy of the community to strengthen and rebuild connectivity and trust among all constituents through transparency, clarity, action, and reinforcement of shared purpose. The next Head will also create space for ideas and input and rally the community, including students, faculty, staff, families, alums, and trustees, to work together in support of Latin's enduring mission, values, and traditions, ensuring stability while actively and collaboratively seeking to redefine educational excellence in a changing world. Execute the strategic design in collaboration with the Latin community: The 2019 Strategic Design serves as a guide for the incoming Head of School to unite the community around shared goals and action. The next Head of School will realize the Strategic Design's goals and implementation priorities, enacting clear and measurable steps toward each priority and effectively engaging members of the community in the process. In executing the Strategic Design, the next Head of School will also capitalize on the opportunity to develop and maintain strong systems of accountability toward goals and effective channels of communication around Latin's progress as it works to achieve its aspirations. Advance the cultivation of a diverse, equitable, and inclusive school community: The incoming Head of School will build upon Latin's work around diversity, equity, and inclusion, partnering with Latin's DEI practitioners, students, faculty, staff, families, alums, trustees, and the broader community to develop a clear and measurable plan for ensuring that all members of Latin's community feel a sense of belonging and connection. The incoming Head of School will help design and implement a long-range and proactive vision for Latin's diversity, equity and inclusion objectives, including championing efforts to attract, support, and retain faculty and staff of color and creating a culture of accountability for racist and discriminatory behavior, if any. The next Head of School will vocalize the importance of this work and embrace tough conversations and actions around the implementation of practices and policies that result in support for all identities within or outside the Latin community.
