Taking the lead on gay rights "felt risky, and felt like we were doing something important." – Ashley Quinto Powell '00 history and media studies, worked with the National Association of Independent Schools; Student Diversity and Leadership Conference and studied abroad in Austria and South Africa. Following an internship at Paramount Pictures, Garcia found a job at Participant Media, spearheading social action campaigns in conjunction with movies such as An Inconvenient Truth and The Visitor. He was accepted to law school in 2011 and spent the summer of 2012 as an intern in the White House Office of Communications, where he helped draft the announcement of President Obama's position on the Dream Act. No matter how busy he was with work, Powell said, Garcia always made time for friends and socializing. "He was so much fun," she said. "His laugh was just ridiculous."
