Dear Romans, In this season of graduations and life transitions for many of us and those we love, I hope that everyone is being welcomed into a community as supportive as Latin's alumni community. We look forward with anticipation of the energy, interest and skills our new grads and college grads bring, and in turn eagerly offer our assistance as they continue to trek away from Clark, North and Dearborn streets. Did any of us know at graduation how Latin would reappear in our lives? Stories abound of later-in-life professional interactions and connections, as well as personal ones. Just when you least expect it, you'll bump into a fellow grad in a far flung location or interview with a former Latin parent for a new job. Some alumni have found life-long partners in business, or in love. For a small school, we appear to be everywhere! I've asked many alumni what they value about Latin, and the answers are as varied as the people. Each student passing through the halls of Latin seems to carry away at least one experience, skill, interest or relationship that sticks with them for the rest of their lives. I hope you'll pause from time to time, perhaps on National Latin Day in April, and take stock of your Latin roots. Find a way to extend a hand to a fellow alum or current student. If you need ideas for ways to be helpful, I'd be happy to brainstorm with you. Whether we were at Latin for four, six or 14 years, we have entered into a Latin family to call on when we are looking for a job, moving to a new place, publicizing an accomplishment or promoting a new venture. We are a powerful network and a caring community. Welcome to the Alumni Association, Class of 2019! Good luck as you fan out all over the world!
