After 130 years, it takes an exceptional gathering to record a new first for the Latin community. Over Sunday brunch in September, Miles Berger '48, Carl Leigh '48, and Harry Stern '48 made history, bringing together their families over Reunion Weekend for Latin's first official 70th reunion gathering. The three lifelong friends shared stories of highlights and hijinks from their Latin days from the football field to the classroom to fraught negotiations over the finer points of student government. The gathering was a dual celebration, including not only Miles, Carl and Harry, but several of their children, including classmates Albert Berger '75, Nancy Leigh '75 and Harry Stern '75 (and his daughter, Danielle); Stuart Leigh '76; and Carla Stern '79 (and her daughter, Mimi), all of whom traveled to Chicago for the occasion, from California, Idaho, Massachusetts and Washington. The group shared cherished memories about experiences as Latin students, parents, trustees and alumni over the past 70 years. All have remained active in the alumni community, and the three families remain close, despite the distance separating them. The three friends looked back on their experiences at Latin with the pleasure of reminiscence and more than a little humor, recounting youthful adventures echoed by their children's experiences a generation later. All agreed that they would be back in five years for their 75th! Barbara Pruitt Siniscalchi passed away May 17, 2018, at her home in San Diego, CA.
