L E T T E R F R O M T H E C F O A N D T R E A S U R E R O F T H E B O A R D Dear Latin Community, We are pleased to share that the 2017–18 school year was another financially successful year for Latin that resulted in a surplus, which was transferred to the endowment. We continued to focus on our strategic plan priorities: educational excellence, wellness as a foundation for education, community engagement, and an inclusive and supportive community. Following are a few of the year's highlights: • Opened the school year with a record-high enrollment of 1,164 students. • Continued to manage tuition increases with a 2.9% average across all divisions. • Provided more than $4.1 million in need-based financial aid. • Continued to implement Computer Science, Teacher Excellence and Early Math initiatives in all divisions as a result of programmatic gifts in these areas. • Purchased 1547 N. Dearborn property. • Designed and raised funds for upper school Learning Commons project. As you will see throughout this report, the ongoing partnership with parents and support from alumni have allowed us to provide our students and faculty with the best possible experience. In particular, we would like to thank Brian Miller '92, chair of the Investment Committee, and Suzanne Gignilliat, chair of the Development Committee, for their leadership and outstanding commitment to the work of the school. We are also grateful to the entire Latin community for the ongoing financial generosity that allows our faculty, staff and students to live our values and bring our mission to life on a daily basis. We continue to acknowledge that a strong financial foundation is critical to sustaining the excellence of a Latin School experience and the long-lasting impact of our community. Thank you for your support. Sincerely, David Koo 2017–18 Treasurer, Board of Trustees "The ongoing partnership with parents and support from alumni have allowed us to provide our students and faculty with the best possible experience."
