1980 1980 Mike TEOLIS ' 96 ' 89 Mike Teolis begins his first year at Latin as the instrumental music director for the lower, middle and upper school bands. ' 90 In honor of former Lower School Director Linda Hennelly, Teolis writes "The Hennelly March" for the lower school band. The march has been played at every lower school band concert since. ' 93–'95 Wearing only white shirts and black pants in 20-degree weather, members of the upper school band march during the Chicago Bears half-time show. Fact: The students' instruments froze and they had to sing their parts. ' 90 ' 96 The upper school pep rally, full of music, games and fun (as we know it today), is born. Teolis breaks both arms after falling off the stage during upper school commencement; spends his recovery time writing the now ubiquitous "Fight Song." Teolis finds a permanent home in room 221 after teaching band classes for several years in the Wrigley Theatre and then the loggia. ' 89 Bower's rendition of "Hannibal of Carthage" as part of the Rome unit in middle school history class becomes legend. ' 81 Tom Bower starts at Latin as a history teacher, P.E. teacher and coach. In addition to teaching, Bower coaches upper school boys tennis. shirts and black pants ' 87 ' 91 Bower marks his sixth year of coaching upper school boys soccer. He will continue to coach the team for 31 more years. Bower already an admired coach by both girls and boys middle school basketball players. ' 95 Bower becomes full-time athletic director and focuses on coaching upper school boys and girls soccer. ' 92 Bower assists in creating the first girls soccer team at Latin. ' 99 Bower forms partnership with Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA). ' 83 32 ROMANS, LOYAL AND TRUE
