F E AT U R E The Personification of & Passion Excellence Honoring the Life & Legacy of Richard R. Dolezal, 1935-2012 24 L AT I N M AGAZINE We were saddened to report the passing of beloved teacher, mentor and friend Richard Dolezal on August 28, at the age of 76. Dr. Dolezal was a gifted educator who shared his love for literature, kind support, wise counsel and gentle wit with generations of students, parents and colleagues during the more than 50 years that he taught in the English Department and led the school in various administrative roles. He made an impact on countless lives and was a Latin School institution. Since August, the Latin community has come together to honor his life, first at a service at St. Alphonsus Church in Chicago (where Dr. D had been baptized as an infant) and later at a gathering in Latins Wrigley Theatre during Homecoming & Reunion Weekend. At these events, and through dozens of emails and notes, former students, colleagues and friends have shared their memories of Dr. Dolezal. Here is just a sample of the poignant, heart-felt and often funny recollections that we have received.
