Fifth Grade Graduation:
Leaving the Lower School
The Class of 2017 gathered in the lower school
gymnasium on Friday, June 4 to celebrate the
culmination of their lower school experience with fifth
grade graduation.
After a welcome by Jessie Berger, classmates Kathryn
Stender, Ike Baldwin and David Moore shared some
of their favorite memories of each grade. They each
spoke of the unique experiences, such as the Ellis Island
simulation, Superstars, community service opportunities
and the Lorado Taft trip, that made the lower school
so special and allowed them to build long-lasting
relationships with each other and with their teachers.
The three also thanked their teachers and the entire
staff of the lower school for their help, support and love
over the years.
Fifth grader Getty Hill then addressed the audience
with his talk about How Technology Helped Shape
My Education in the Lower School. Getty praised Latin
faculty for their eager embrace of SmartBoards and
video capabilities to enhance the learning experience at
all levels.
Before the presentation of diplomas by faculty members
Mr. McPharlin, Mr. Newmark and Ms. Thompson,
Lower School Director Sally Ott and fifth grader Alex
Dent took a moment to congratulate the class and wish
them well in the middle school. Ms. Ott passed along
some particularly useful advice from first graders,
including, Try not to get lost.
