Upper School Graduation:
On To the Next Chapter
Lauded for their generosity and commitment to
community and each other, the 110 members of the
Class of 2010 bid Latin farewell during a rousing
graduation ceremony on June 9.
Upper School Director Ted Graf opened the
ceremony telling the audience of friends, family and
loved ones gathered in Moody Church that he
couldnt help but be impressed by this class collective
tendency toward generosity and engagement.
Meanwhile, outgoing Head of School Don Firke spoke
about the talent, passion and leadership potential he
had seen in the seniors.
The Class of 2010 chose Sam Mulopulos as their
representative. In a warm, uplifting speech, Sam spoke
about the gift he and his peers were given by being able
to attend Latin School and challenged them to use
their gift for the good of everyone. He also called on his
classmates to prepare themselves for the days ahead
with dedication and enthusiasm. Before leaving the
podium, Sam charged those present with a mission:
Your quest is a simple one to save the world. You
have been chosen. Your adventure has just begun.
Faculty speaker David Marshall ruminated on the
nature of time and the swiftness with which it
passes. His speech encouraged graduates to hold on
to moments. Take time to stop and remember the
important things. Take time to feel gratitude.
After diplomas were conferred and mortarboards
thrown into the air, the graduates processed back into
the June sunlight with their families and friends around
them, ready to start the next chapter of their lives.
