up front Leadership Awards l The Shipp Outstanding Educator Award Jonathan Legendre The Shipp family presents this award annually to the member of the faculty who best represents the ideal of independent school teaching through excellence in classroom instruction, demonstrated concern for the healthy development of students, and extensive and valuable activity on behalf of the school as a whole. l Karen Sue Berger Community Service Award (faculty) Jane Kelly Karen Sue Berger was a kindergarten student at Latin School who died of cystic fibrosis in 1965. The award is presented in her memory by the Sally and Miles Berger Family Foundation to a student and faculty member in recognition of their outstanding contributions in community service. Jeff Sharp presents Beth & Bruce White with the Van Gorder award. l Edwin S. Van Gorder III Award Beth & Bruce White This award was established by the Alumni Association in honor of Dr. Edwin S. Van Gorder III, who served as Latin���s headmaster from 1969 to 1973. It is presented to the member of the Latin community who has demonstrated extraordinary service to Latin School through volunteer effort and devotion. l Parent Association Service Awards Each year the Parent Association honors faculty and staff members who are celebrating milestone anniversaries at Latin. This year, the Parent Association wishes to recognize the following faculty and staff: 10 years Tamara Fraser, Anne Johnson, Derek Haverland, Dawn Kirts and Lori Kloehn 20 years Barbara Etchingham, Vicki Hague Kendall and Cheryl Vlazney 25 years Shelley Addison, Thomas Canright, S. David Fript, Patti Golden, Sally Ott and Charles Sebastian Jane Kelly accepts the Karen Sue Berger Community Service Award award. l Augustus K. Maxwell, Jr. Award Judy Kritzberg The Alumni Association presents this award in honor of the late Gus Maxwell ���37, who served as president of the Alumni Association from 1966 to 1979. The award is given to the member of the faculty, staff or administration who has demonstrated extraordinary support, loyalty and devotion to the Latin School community and who has rendered such outstanding service as to make a lasting impact on the school. 8 Latin Magazine 30 years Pauline Brakebill, Greg Czernecki and Janice Wilson 50+ years Dr. Richard Dolezal In addition, the Parent Association bids a fond farewell to retiring faculty members Judy Kritzberg, after 45 years of teaching at Latin, and Leslie Rumney, who became the lower school librarian in 1971. (See their stories on pages 10-11) l Parent Association Volunteer Service Award Kristine Brandel and Sandy Chapman This award recognizes exemplary service on behalf of Latin School. This year, the Parent Association would like to extend its thanks and appreciation to who have gone far beyond the call of duty in their volunteer efforts on behalf of the school over the years.
