up close ISIDRO CABRAL POSITION AND YEARS AT LATIN: Custodial manager, 26 years. WHAT BROUGHT YOU TO LATIN? I had been working at Mitchell's (at North and Clark) as a busboy for five years. Latin's custodial supervisor used to come in for coffee and he kept asking me if I wanted to come and work for him. About a month before he retired, he asked me again and I thought that I might as well take a chance and try it. WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE THINGS ABOUT LATIN? The people. I enjoy working with people and the people here are really good to work with – they are helpful and go out of their way to make my job easier by pitching in. WHAT KEEPS YOU COMMITTED TO THE SCHOOL? My team and the way we all work together. I still look forward to coming to work every day. I also like that I have been working in this neighborhood for more than 30 years. It makes me feel like I am part of a community. It is great to see alumni or even people I knew from Mitchell's when I am working around the school. WHAT IS LATIN'S BEST-KEPT SECRET? The view of the Air and Water show from the roof on top of the upper school's fifth-floor gym. WHAT MAKE YOUR JOB CHALLENGING? Sometimes it is hard getting your point across – like getting the kids to take their muddy cleats off before they come into the building. Every year, I try and I try, but they just don't get it. WHAT QUALITY DO YOU ADMIRE MOST IN OTHERS? The willingness to take initiative. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SAYING? "Between you and me and the man upstairs, we can get anything done." WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES OR INTERESTS? I can't sit still. So when I am not at Latin, I am always doing something. I am interested in plants and gardening and like to learn about native plants. I also like taking road trips. For the last six years I have driven all over the United States and to Mexico. Along the way, I stop and visit family and friends. All I need is a pillow and tank of gas.
