class notes 1965 REUNION YEAR Joan Barrett Kellogg Bill Arrott reflects on the Super Bowl and all the memories associated with this year's Saints victory. "It was 44 years in the making, including those dark ages when fans of the New Orleans 'Aints' wore paper bags over their heads to celebrate a 1-win/15-loss football season. I spent 10 years in the Big Easy planning Desert Storm with my good Army buddy, Michael Perry, a New Orleans native. Both of us have since been transplanted to different ends of Tennessee, and we hadn't seen each other in years, until this Super Bowl weekend, and neither of us had a decent meal since we left the Crescent City. So we got together in Memphis to watch the game. The weekend was catered by two New Orleans restaurants, that had both opened branches in Memphis, plus some original Memphis barbeque. Ah, crab remoulade, oysters Rockefeller and Bienville, turtle soup, lobster bisque, blackened redfish, crawfish etoufee, Bananas Foster and bread pudding graced our table. And to top it off: 'Who dat say dey gonna beat dem Saints?' Looking forward to our 45th Reunion this fall; mark your calendars all, it's going to be great!" 1967 John Friedman Marla Chernof Cohen writes: "Within the last year I connected with John Friedman because of a mutual friend. I then contacted his sister Wendy, who was one of my close friends at Latin. Wendy lives in L.A. with her family, and my daughter had moved out there to work after college. Last year Wendy and I had lunch in L.A., and we caught up on our lives and old Latin friends. It was really fun to hear about her family and our old 2 1 friends. I have lived in Highland Park for 23 years and raised my family there. Mark and I are both practicing attorneys (I have worked part time for most of my career), and we have two children. Mallory is almost 26 and works at Creative Artist's Agency in L.A., Alex is 23 and is completing a master's in biomedical science." 1972 David Grant James Kaplan Joe Barks is chagrined to share the following news with the Latin community: his oldest son, Andy Barks, is now the new head varsity baseball coach at none other than Francis W. Parker School. 1982 Jeremy Baskin Suzy Dry Golub We regret to inform the Latin community that the mostbeloved David Lerner passed away on April 11, 2010, at the age of 45. He embraced all that came with having cancer and never considered it a battle. Rather, he "leaned into" the moment and exhibited grace, dignity, compassion and love for all he encountered. An example for us all, and we extend our most sincere condolences to all who were close to him. We are sad to share the news that much loved Latin parent and Class of 1982 alumnus Fred Cohen passed away on Tuesday, May 4 after a long battle with cancer. Fred was a devoted father and husband and a successful attorney who fought for better medical care for poor children in Illinois. Our deepest condolences are extended to Fred's family and many friends. 3 1 Ann Kalisz-Shofner '79 and her three children, Alyssa, Robert and Andrew. 2 Fred Cohen Galpern '88, Doug Call '87 and David Diaz '88 at Steve's book launch party in December. 56 Latin Magazine 3 Drew Sommers '88, Steve
