Over the last year we here at
Latin have given a great deal of
thought to the idea of community.
The school has been looking at community-building within by
working on initiatives to involve everyone from faculty and
students to staff and parents in a number of school-wide endeavors
(including the Martin Luther King Jr. activities you read about
in Up Front), by looking for ways to bring together individuals
with similar interests in efforts to promote community (such as
the Captain's Council you read about on our Athletics page), or
by supporting long-standing community-wide traditions such as
Commencement or the Student/Faculty Chorale (see the Arts
piece). We also have turned outward and reflected on our role in
the larger community as we have been reviewing programs such
as Project Week and Service Learning.
With these efforts at the forefront of our minds, we have
turned to members of the school community and have asked them
to share their thoughts not only about the term, but also about
how they give back to and serve their various communities.
What follows are just some of the wonderful reflections we
have received. If you have a story to share about community
and your part in it, we are eager to hear more. Please send your
thoughts to communications@latinschool.org. We look forward
to hearing how you celebrate community.
The many ways we give.
