Beth Goldberg Heller 93 reads to junior kindergarteners. alumni alumni return to the Halls of latin Paul Trussell 98 and his brick. Whether you live around the corner or travel to Chicago only occasionally, make plans to stop in the buildings and relive some great Latin memories. Latin welcomes alumni visitors and looks forward to hearing stories of years past. Alumni find their way back in a variety of ways. While Reunion & Homecoming Weekend brings the largest concentration of alums to campus every year, our doors remain open for drop-by visits all year long. This spring, a quartet of alumni from Girls Class of 49 and Boys Class of 47 stopped by during a long weekend trip to Chicago from out of state. In addition to touring the new upper and middle school buildings, the friends had the opportunity to share stories from their days at Scott Street with Teresa Sutter from the Alumni and Development Office, the unofficial school archivist. My hope is that the next time they return, the women will allow us to record their rendition of the Girls Schools traditional Ivy Song, otherwise lost to time, Sutter said. (See their photo on page 47.) David Mendelson 84 and Heather Webster Sullivan 91 share photos of their Latin days with third graders. 44 Latin Magazine Paul Trussell 98 found the brick he donated in the walkway outside the middle school during his first visit back to Latin in five years. As a more recent graduate, his tour around the upper school included visits with former faculty and fellow grads who are now working at Latin. It was like escorting a rock star, reported Alumni Director Stephanie Chu, everyone knew him. Paul had returned to Chicago as the keynote speaker for the High Jump annual benefit on April 30. A number of alums return to Latin to address students, coach sports teams, help teach current students about the role of the alumni in the life of Latin or volunteer in some other capacity. Ivan Strauss 51 is one of our most frequent visitors. Ivan volunteers twice a year for the alumni Annual Fund phonathon campaign, attends special events like the Bridge Dedication and annual Faculty-Alumni Cocktail Party and visits with lower school students to amaze them with stories of separate boys and girls schools, uniforms and football fields. If you will be in the area, give the Alumni Office a call at 312.582.6040 or email alumni@latinschool.org and we will take you on a tour, arrange for you to sit in on a class, introduce you to our fantastic students and happily listen to the stories of your days at Latin. So when are you coming home for a visit? Ivan Strauss 51 visits with second graders during Alumni week.
