PAMELA BUCHANAN MILLER POSITION AND YEARS AT LATIN I am the middle school counselor and a sixth- through eighth-grade affective education teacher and have served as a math teacher. This year I enthusiastically celebrate 30 years at Latin. WHAT IS YOUR MISSION AS A COUNSELOR? My mission is to provide programs that offer a range of prevention and intervention services to support students' emotional, social and educational development. I collaborate with teachers, parents, administrators and outside professional services to create opportunities for equity and success in the educational environment for each student. WHAT IS THE BEST PART OF YOUR JOB? Working with children and having the opportunity to promote moral and ethical development by encouraging children to discuss their feelings, consider various points of view, identify challenges and empower themselves to develop strategies to deal with social, behavioral and personal challenges. WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES AND INTERESTS? Reading, exercising, gourmet cooking and traveling. I am very interested in natural health and wellness and psychology. WHAT PROFESSION, OTHER THAN COUNSELING, COULD YOU ALSO SEE YOURSELF DOING? I thoroughly enjoy fine dining. I could envision myself owning a restaurant and being a gourmet chef specializing in organic vegetarian meals. WHAT WAS THE LAST GOOD BOOK YOU READ? The last good and powerful book I read was The New Jim Crow by Michelle Alexander. WHAT ARE THE TRAITS YOU ADMIRE MOST IN OTHERS? Honesty, compassion, integrity, optimism, selfconfidence, commitment, good will, perseverance and respect. WHAT HAVE BEEN THE GREATEST INFLUENCES IN YOUR LIFE? My faith in God and my wonderful loving relationship with my mother. DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE QUOTE?
