News & Notes News & Notes Project Puerto Rico Middle and lower school families collected more than 1,200 pounds of necessities, including infant formula, bug spray and water purication tablets, for hurricane victims in Puerto Rico. e items were packed in blue & orange bags and sent via UPS to villages outside of San Juan. 163 years young Students celebrated founder Mabel Slade Vickery's 163rd birthday with cake in all divisions. Faculty and sta channeled the original wellness guru by reigniting the Walking Club which Mabel pioneered. Project Week Choice Upper school students have a choice this year of 16 in-town options, 20 out-of-town options and 1 global exchange. Everyday heroes Students and faculty donated 42 units of blood in the biannual LifeSource Blood Drive. With this donation, 126 lives will be saved! Eclipse glasses get a second life e Latin community donated 88 eclipse viewing glasses to the organization Astronomers Without Borders for schools in South America and Asia in preparation for the next eclipse in 2019. + = Latin Speaker Series: Michele Borba Michele Borba, author, educational psychologist and former classroom teacher, spent time at Latin on October 23-24, working with students and faculty. During her evening presentation to parents, she spoke about how raising empathetic kids leads to their greater success as leaders. 900+ A full house Latin's annual open house for prospective students in 5th-12th grades exceeded capacity again with more than 900 visitors in one afternoon.
