Time to Get ON Your Soapbox Frank Tempone's junior English class, e New Americans, teamed up with Stagecraft teacher, ad Hallstein, to build a soapbox as part of their speech and rhetoric unit. Mr. Hallstein walked the 12 students through the process of cutting boards, boring handles, and stenciling the nishing touches all in one class period at Latin's wood shop. Students then hopped on a bus to Bughouse Square, a city landmark for oration and debate over the last century, brought the soapbox to the center of the Square, stood on it, and read from original rhetorical writing they'd been working on over the past week. Passersby heard the students orating on a range of topics including the danger of unhealthy relationships, athletics and masculinity, life lessons in model plane building and bandwagon basketball fans.
