Class Notes Roman Connections 1941 Marian Vilas Reid passed away on March 23, 2017. After graduating from Latin, Marian attended Westover School in Middlebury, CT, where she later served as a trustee. During WWII, Marian served as a volunteer Red Cross nurse's aide, which she truly enjoyed. She traveled extensively across all seven continents and picked up photography later in life. Marian's poems were legendary in their wit and humor and remain as a lasting remembrance of her life. Marian loved and had dogs throughout her life starting with "Ditto," the cocker spaniel, who was purchased at the Marshall Field store back in the day. We extend our condolences to her family, classmates and friends. 1947 Frederic C. ompson passed away on May 22, 2017. Following four years in the Air Force during the Korean War, Fred earned a BSEE from Northwestern University and an MSM from the University of Southern California. His career spanned jobs for the National Laboratory in Livermore, CA, to the Los Alamos National Laboratory, from which he retired in 2000. He spent many years studying satellites, observing on Mt. Hamilton nightly. Fred's long and varied career took him to such places as Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Scotland, Greece, Kuwait and Iraq. He lived a full and rich life with a vast array of friends and a loving and supportive family. We extend our condolences to Fred's wife of 61 years, Caroline Layton ompson '49, as well as his family, classmates and friends. Susan Hill Vos passed away on June 10, 2017. Born in 1929 in Chicago, Susie graduated from Northwestern University and later met her husband, Hugh, at a Presbyterian church retreat. Together they lived and worked in Brazil and England before returning to live on the east coast, then moving to Santa Barbara in 1985. Susie was a lifelong artist, and her paintings evoke a love of nature and how people and animals blend into it. Susie had a love of nature and enjoyed gardening and raising animals and sh. We extend our condolences to her family, classmates and friends. 1950 In our last issue, we incorrectly listed Bob Katz's wife's name. She is Barbara Koretz Katz '56. We regret the error. 1952 Bob Mendelson David F. Noble has recently written an ebook, available on Amazon.com. David writes: "You could say that love for writing in English goes back to the inspiration of Francis 'Bud' Lovett, who was one of the best teachers I have ever had." Learn more in Marketplace on page 46. 1955 George Plamondon Jr. passed away on May 1, 2017. A lifelong resident of Chicago and Lake Forest, IL, he attended Georgetown University and Lake Forest College. After serving as vice president of operations for N. Marshall Seeburg & Sons, he spent much of his career as a commodities trader on the Chicago Board of Trade. He served in the National Guard; was an active community member, serving as the president of the Winter Club of Lake Forest and on the board of trustees of Lake Forest Academy; and was a long-standing member of the Racquet Club of Chicago. He was an avid golfer, motorcyclist and boatsman; he loved being on the water in his 1937 ChrisCraft, the appropriately named "What Fun."
