UP FRONT The Alumni Cup Award Hedy Gutfreund Established by the Alumni Association, this award recognizes the student in the freshman class who has demonstrated outstanding academic accomplishments, intellectual curiosity and love of learning. Leadership Awards The Shipp Outstanding Educator Award Mary Durkin The Shipp family presents this award annually to the member of the faculty who best represents the ideal of independent school teaching through excellence in classroom instruction, demonstrated concern for the healthy development of students, and extensive and valuable activity on behalf of the school as a whole. Karen Sue Berger Community Service Award (faculty) Ed Mahoney Karen Sue Berger was a kindergarten student at Latin School who died of cystic fibrosis in 1965. The award is presented in her memory by the Sally and Miles Berger Family Foundation to a student and faculty member in recognition of their outstanding contributions in community service. Ed Mahoney Augustus K. Maxwell, Jr. Award Linda O'Keeffe The Alumni Association presents this award in honor of the late Gus Maxwell '37, who served as president of the Alumni Association from 1966 to 1979. The award is given to the member of the faculty, staff or administration who has demonstrated extraordinary support, loyalty and devotion to the Latin School community and who has rendered such outstanding service as to make a lasting impact on the school. Linda O'Keeffe Edwin S. Van Gorder, III Award Angela Dago This award was established by the Alumni Association in honor of Dr. Edwin S. Van Gorder III, who served as Latin's headmaster from 1969 to 1973. It is presented to the member of the Latin community who has demonstrated extraordinary service to Latin School through volunteer effort and devotion. Parent Association Service Awards Each year the Parent Association honors faculty and staff members who are celebrating milestone anniversaries at Latin. This year, the Parent Association wishes to recognize the following faculty and staff: 10 years Carrie Beredo, Regan Coin, Trisha Flassing, Linda Foster, Hamdi Hachim, Elissabeth Legendre, Melissa Pence, Emily Warren, Jeffrey Windus 20 years Lara Frohlich, Anne Meyers Hobbs, Mary Joan Houck, Carol Spreitzer 25 years Linda O'Keeffe 30 years Thomas Bower, Sophan Mok 35 years Marilyn Freund, Frances Lyne In addition, the Parent Association bids a fond farewell to retiring faculty members Gregg Hoffenkamp (1988-2011), Greg Czernecki (1980-2010) and Janice Wilson (1980-2011). Parent Association Volunteer Service Award Neill Brilliant and Julie Walner This award recognizes exemplary service on behalf of Latin School. This year, the Parent Association would like to extend its thanks and appreciation to those who have gone far beyond the call of duty in their volunteer efforts on behalf of the school over the years.
