Class Notes Before becoming a state delegate, Robbyn devoted more than 15 years to working in international health research at Johns Hopkins University, the World Bank and other organizations, and has lived and worked in nearly a dozen countries in Asia, Africa and the Caribbean. With a focus on prevention of infectious diseases such as HIV/ AIDS and malaria, Robbyn also contributed to research that led the World Health Organization to revise its global policies on cervical cancer prevention. Robbyn recently turned her attention from international to US health policy; in addition to serving as state delegate, she also works as special assistant at the Maryland Health Benefit Exchange, the state agency that implements Obamacare. A well-regarded community leader in Baltimore, Robbyn has spearheaded grassroots movements to increase greening, transit infrastructure and sustainability. Robbyn studied Mandarin Chinese in Taiwan and served as a Peace Corps volunteer in the west African nation of Niger, where she learned the Zarma language.
