Words from the Head Words from the Head Dear Latin Community, Latin is fortunate to have a well-earned reputation for excellence. Our commitment to the liberal arts has afforded us a solid foundation on which to build a robust academic program, and the flexibility to innovate in the face of an ever-changing world. As educators, it is more critical than ever that we prepare our students with the skills they need to succeed not only in today's world, but for the unknowable future. At Latin, our path for getting there is clear. e Strategic Plan states under our first priority of Educational Excellence: "Informed by educational research and our own experience, we commit to further expand student skills, perspectives, engagement and achievement." is concept incorporates all that has mattered to Latin since 1888 – delivering a strong, liberal arts education based on the most compelling educational research and pedagogical best practice. It drives how we learn from our students, how we develop curriculum, how we evaluate teachers and even how we make new hires. is magazine is proof that excellence is not only a goal in the classroom, but an ingrained value of our community. Whether it is the lists of student awards and matriculation (See News & Notes), the outstanding fall season for our Roman athletes or our alum, Kent Farrington, standing on an Olympic medal podium, these accomplishments represent the attainment not only of externally-constructed measures of success, but also of personally meaningful ones. Latin's reputation has preceded us for 128 years because it is accurate. Not only are the individuals at Latin dedicated to excellence, but as an institution, we embrace the same values and habits we hope to instill in our students: a love of learning, a forward-looking growth mindset, and the desire to improve continually on what we do. It is our nature as a school community to look ahead and challenge ourselves to live our mission in thoughtful and compelling ways. Sincerely, Randall Dunn Head of School 2
