Class Notes too much and joined the brokerage industry, allowing him to keep his family in the city he loved. A majority of his career was spent as a financial adviser with Merrill Lynch, Kidder Peabody and Raymond James. Gerry was a devoted husband and father, involving himself in virtually all of his children's activities. In his free time, Gerry enjoyed reading, photography, playing tennis, and listening to and playing his favorite music. roughout the years, Gerry served on numerous boards in Chicago and Naples, FL, including president of the Latin School Alumni Association and treasurer of the Children's Home & Aid Society of Illinois. He was the co-founder of the Northwestern Club of Naples and treasurer of e Laurentians. Gerry also enjoyed teaching an investment class through Latin's Live & Learn adult education program. He was a member of the Saddle and Cycle Club, e Racquet Club, e University Club in Chicago, as well as the Port Royal Club and Naples Yacht Club in Florida. We extend our condolences to his brother, John '51; son, Gerry '77; and daughter, Barbara '82. 1949 Peter Barrett Betsy Rupprecht Latin extends our best wishes to Peter Barrett and Parker alumna Betsy Altman, who married on June 24, 2016. Mr. and Mrs. Barrett hosted a Parker reunion at their home this fall, to which Mr. Barrett wore a Latin tie. We look forward to having them both at future Latin reunions. 1950 George Moxon died on Aug. 29, 2016, after a long illness. George, an avid sailor, received his bachelor's degree from Harvard University and a J.D. degree from the University of Miami Law School. At Harvard, George played football, basketball and squash; threw hammers in track and field; sailed; competed with the rifle team; and was involved in the Hasty Pudding Club. During law school, George clerked in the evenings for the FBI and, on occasion was asked to be the driver for J. Edgar Hoover during visits to the Miami office. George was also a U.S. Army Korean War veteran. In addition to a successful career as a trial attorney, he served in the 1960s as counsel to the Broward County School Board, city attorney for Sunrise Golf Village, and an eminent domain attorney for the Fort Lauderdale airport expansion and Nova schools. George was known for his wry sense of humor and his love of jazz, classical music and art. We extend our condolences to his sister, Hope Taylor '52. 1951 Ivan Strauss Carl Keeler died on June 16, 2016. After earning a master's of science at Northwestern, Carl migrated to Florida, where he became a professor of biology at Manatee Community College. An inspiring and devoted educator, Carl taught thousands of students in the course of his career. In his free time, he honed his fine-art photography skills, eventually joining a co-op in Sarasota. Upon retirement, Carl became the gallery director for the Art Council of Manatee County. Carl was a former executive vice president of the Manatee County Cultural Alliance, where he remained a devoted volunteer. Dorothy Floto Kohl passed away on June 2, 2016 after battling ovarian cancer for more than 29 years. An accomplished swimmer and golfer, Dorothy won many golf club championships at Clearbrook Country Club in Saugatuck, MI. In the winter months in Florida, she volunteered for 30-plus years at the Coral Door helping to raise money to benefit the North Broward Hospital District. In the summers in Saugatuck, she worked diligently to raise money benefiting the American Cancer Society and the Lynn Schreiber Cancer Foundation. Latin Magazine ยป Fall 2016 31
