News & Notes Seventh Grade Virtual Exchange with School in Pakistan e seventh grade Global Perspectives students participated in a virtual exchange with Lahore College of Arts and Sciences (LACAS) in Pakistan this fall. Students in both countries communicated via a teacher-moderated platform, React Learning, designed by Latin alum Daniel Streicher '06, co-founder and CEO of the program. Students shared photos, videos, poems and reflections designed to enhance their understanding of and empathy for each other's unique culture. Established in 1987, LACAS has multiple campuses in Lahore, Pakistan. Recognized as a center of excellence in education, LACAS is a private academic institution committed to providing equal opportunities to girls and boys. Similar to Latin, LACAS is guided by a mission that aspires "to ensure each child reaches his or her potential." e school also commits to celebrating diversity and promoting independent thinking and life-long learning. e Citizens Archive of Pakistan (CAP), an NGO dedicated to cultural and historical preservation, will help facilitate the exchange program. 2016-17 Latin Speaker Series Head of School Randall Dunn, in partnership with the Parent Association, has invited several researchers to school this year whose work supports and illuminates Latin's educational philosophy and thinking about how kids learn best. Randy Bass, Vice Provost for Education and Professor of English at Georgetown University, visited Latin on November 21 and presented to parents on Innovative Teaching to Improve the Student Experience. His talk focused on high-impact practices that teach to the whole person. At Georgetown, he is striving to cultivate a balanced person with intellectual, affective, imaginative and reflective capabilities. He stressed that "the most important thing that you can have is a deep connection to your learning." Bass leads the Designing the Future(s) initiative and the Red House incubator for curricular transformation. A leading thinker about, and designer of, innovative pedagogy at the undergraduate level, he is an advocate for problem/project-based learning and its ability to educate the whole student and promote enduring motivation and success.
