Leadership Awards The Shipp Outstanding Educator Award Jane Kelly e Shipp family presents this award annually to the member of the faculty who best represents the ideal of independent school teaching through excellence in classroom instruction, demonstrated concern for the healthy development of students, and extensive and valuable activity on behalf of the school as a whole. Augustus K. Maxwell, Jr. Award Donna Klemz e Alumni Association presents this award in honor of the late Gus Maxwell '37, who served as president of the Alumni Association from 1966 to 1979. e award is given to a member of the faculty, staff or administration who has demonstrated extraordinary support, loyalty and devotion to the Latin School community and who has rendered such outstanding service as to make a lasting impact on the school. Edwin S. Van Gorder III Award Michael Chu & Jacqueline Ferro is award was established by the Alumni Association in honor of Dr. Edwin S. Van Gorder III, who served as Latin's headmaster from 1969 to 1973. It is presented to a member of the Latin community who has demonstrated extraordinary service to Latin School through volunteer effort and devotion. Latin School Service Awards Each year Latin honors faculty and staff members who are celebrating milestone anniversaries. This year, the school wishes to recognize the following faculty and staff: 10 years Daley Chan, Nicole Collias, Christine Eustice, Jerrilyn Gifford, Jovita Monarrez, Katie O'Dea & Carrie Scott 20 years Kenneth Bowen 35 years omas Bower & Sophan Mok 40 years Frances Lyne Parent Association Volunteer Service Award Gwen Farley Green & Luz Engman is award recognizes exemplary service on behalf of Latin School. e Parent Association would like to extend its thanks and appreciation to those who have gone far beyond the call of duty in their volunteer efforts on behalf of the school over the years. Middle School Awards The Isabelle W. Lawrence Award Rose Branson is award is presented by the Alumni Association to the middle school student who has displayed outstanding competence and dedication in the fields of history, English and the arts. Isabelle W. Lawrence was a teacher in the middle school at Latin from 1936 until 1969 and a writer of wide repute. The Gordon Lang Trophy Maya Passman e Alumni Association presents this award to the middle school student who best displays qualities of leadership. e recipient may or may not be an outstanding student or athlete, but within him or her there must be the essence of leadership – a sense of responsibility toward his or her fellow students. The Kimberly Joy Michaels Award Abigail Dutta Kimberly Joy Michaels attended Latin School from 1978 until 1986. Kimberly's parents established this award to celebrate her memory and to commemorate her courage, determination and vitality in the face of the disease that ultimately claimed her life. It is presented to the student who best exemplifies Kimberly's cheerfulness, enthusiasm, humor and indomitable spirit. The Susan Strasburger Memorial Award Rose Branson Susan Strasburger attended Latin School from junior kindergarten to sixth grade. During the fall term of sixth grade, she died after a brief illness. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph J. Strasburger established this award in memory of their daughter, who was an exceptionally bright student and was well liked by her teachers and classmates. is award is presented to the middle school student or students who have achieved the highest scholastic average during three years in the middle school. The Robert Peck Bates Memorial Award Charles Johnson e Robert Peck Bates Memorial Award is presented to the middle school student whose academic performance has improved most significantly over the three years of middle school.
