Upon completion, Holloway takes a photo
of each of her students holding the portrait
they painted, tapes it on the back of the
piece
and sends it to the Memory Project, which
then hand delivers the package to the
children at schools, homes and care centers
around the world.
"Out of anything that I have ever made, this
is probably the painting I am proudest of,"
said Grace Gardner '16. Grace explained
that one of the challenges of the project was
learning to let a piece of art go after spending
so much time creating it. But now she feels
only excitement in anticipation of watching
the video that the Memory Project sends
of the children receiving their
portraits. "I can't wait," Grace
said. "I really hope that
having her own painting
makes her happy."
Judging from the size
of Muhta's smile when
she was handed her
portrait in Ethiopia
recently, it certainly does.
