Tomorrow is now | 5 The Financial Case for Endowment Recognizing that a strong endowment distinguishes the most successful schools and universities, Latin's board of trustees approved the plan for a $50 million endowment-focused campaign. Among schools in its peer group, Latin ranked first in annual giving, but second-to-last in endowment. Latin's pre-campaign endowment market value per student totaled just $21,270, well below what is needed to maintain the highest level of academic excellence. Latin's dependence on tuition and annual giving is not ideal or sustainable. Endowment payouts in the 2013-14 school year accounted for only 3% of overall operating revenue. rough a significant increase in endowment, the school will be able to increase its annual payout by 2.5 times the current amount in perpetuity: a financially stable source of funds now, and for every year to come. The schools that set the standards of quality, push the frontiers of innovation and sustain greatness over generations are, almost without exception, those with the strongest endowments. $30 $20 $10 $40 $80 Endowment Market Value per Student $70 $50 $60 $ High $72,047 Post-Campaign Latin $55,853 Median $31,946 Pre-Campaign Latin $21,270 Low $13,605 MILLIONS Achieving the Competitive Edge: Latin's Endowment v.
