Also attending was my living altruistic kidney donor, Sally Reif (below left), a mother of three and member of the National Guard. We met with three Democrat and three Republican legislators, since kidney disease knows no political affiliation. No visit to Washington would be complete without meeting with my local congressman, Jared Huffman. On March 17, I participated in a panel on the radio show, "Late Nights with Jim Bohannon" (below center) on the subject of organ transplant and altruistic living donation. "More exciting, david JacoBS '74, my younger brother, saw the MatchGrid software that he created used in the historic, first ever, six-way kidney swap performed on the West Coast in March. David is now the chief technology officer at BiologicTx. Our work in the kidney arena is in honor of our youngest brother Brandt Senor JacoBS '76, a Latin alumnus and Cornell graduate who died unexpectedly in 2001 from PKD. Brandt's optimistic view of life, and raw intelligence continue to be an inspiration to all who knew him. 1972 Ben holliS writes: "I had what I can only call a religious experience catching the 'David Bowie Is' exhibition at the MCA in Chicago back in December. To be honest, Bowie scared me back when I was in high school at Latin. I didn't get him. is androgynous thing he was doing creeped me out. I didn't want to be near it. I guess I wasn't as wild and freaky and free as I'd thought. "But then, over the decades he slowly grew on me. I found myself moved to tears listening to his songs on the radio when they'd pop up unexpectedly. Songs like 'Heroes' and 'Pressure.' ere was something about this guy. ere was no denying his brilliance. And so, when this show came to Chicago, I was ready to receive. "Receive what? A message: Time to get back to music. at's what I got from this Space Oddity of a man. Be true to yourself and forget about what 'they' will think of you. at's why I'm working on a new show, a one-man show of stories and songs written by yours truly. At 61, why the hell not?
