All art is self-expression, so, in a way,
every piece is a self-portrait."
– Betty Lark Ross, Visual Arts Department Chair
As upper school art students develop
their point of view, self-portraits become
an important way to validate their
identities. "On a deeper level, it helps
us remember that we are all made up of
highlights and shadows," Ross said.
Top: Josue Cordon '18 made this pencil on
paper self-portrait using a proportional grid
to faithfully render a photograph of himself.
Bottom: Kate Guynn '15 created this self-
portrait in AP Studio Art Class. She collaged
recycled art history book paper on 20 x 30"
paper. Her intent was to make her eyes look
as large as possible.
