Through technology, independent studies and new art forms, the arts faculty members have been able to appeal to the interests of an ever-larger number of students. Around 2000, Latin produced the first issue of VIDI, its photography magazine, and hosted its first student film festival, which has grown into the Chicagoland High School Film Festival. Digital photography and filmmaking are part of the visual arts curriculum each semester. Printmaking and fashion design were added this year. And independent studies have introduced unlimited opportunities for students to pursue their individual passions. "We're going through another transition now. There is new technology, and there are new ways of creating art," said Ross. "Portraiture in the past differs from portraiture now. It has evolved. It is not in the best interest of the students to teach one way of creating art." In performing arts, Nick Baer '96, who spent much time on stage in the Wrigley Theatre during his high school years, has been teaching theater at Latin since 2003. Following his own professional interests in acting, Jazz Band Performing arts teacher and Wrigley eatre alum Nick Baer '96. Latin's dance troupe in 2003. Background: An art room at Latin.
