Our Partnership with Uptown Latin launched the Uptown Partnership in 2012 to provide opportunities for students at all grade levels to engage with a Chicago community in meaningful ways while serving the needs of a neighborhood. e initiative grew out of two successful, long-term community relationships the school already had with McCutcheon Elementary School and Uptown Baptist Soup Kitchen. Uptown is one of the most diverse communities in Chicago. Our faculty, students, parents and alumni work with more than two dozen service organizations, schools, community groups and non-profits in the neighborhood. Wherever possible, this work is integrated in Latin's curriculum, whether students are helping a soup kitchen calculate statistics, practicing English with students in a bilingual program, or interviewing recent immigrants for an oral history project. lower school motto "I love doing service because it's more than just a 'job' or a set amount of hours a week that determine my worth as a human being. e best service feels natural and enjoyable; it's never something that you "have to" do. It becomes such an integrated part of your life and you never look back." – JACK, SENIOR NUMBER OF SERVICE HOURS COMPLETED BY UPPER SCHOOL STUDENTS IN 2013-14 Supported by a rich curriculum infused with global and multicultural learning and an all-school service learning program that is focused on community engagement, our students take their citizenship well beyond the walls of Latin. Kindness, manners civility
