Founded in 1888, Latin School is the oldest
independent day school in Chicago. e
school was designed to provide students with
a rigorous college-preparatory education in
the classical tradition, with a curriculum
that was heavily influenced by Classical
studies and the study of the Greek and Latin
languages, hence the name "Latin School."
Latin started in a private home on Chicago's
North Side serving ten, 10-year-old boys.
Today, Latin is home to approximately 1,100
young men and women in grades junior
kindergarten through 12 from throughout
the Chicago area. e school continues
to follow its tradition of excellence while
providing innovative programming and a
rich variety of extracurricular and athletics
activities in state-of-the-art facilities.
