Upper school English teacher Sarah Bunger
took first place at a Moth Story Hour event at
Haymarket Pub on May 12. e theme of the
night was animals, and Bunger won for a story
about her childhood family dog, which her
father had acquired in a poker game.
Renie Finch (or Coach Dunn, as many people
remember her) retired from coaching in the
fall after coaching middle or upper school
field hockey at Latin for more than 30 years.
Finch has spent countless hours out on the
Lincoln Park fields and on bus rides for the last
three decades, not only teaching players the
fundamentals of the sport, but also teaching
them to love the game. She has had a positive
impact on an incredible number of players who
have been fortunate enough to play for her.
e girls on her middle school team and their
parents (some of whom played for Finch early
in her career) paid tribute to her years of
dedication at the fall sports banquet.
Upper school English teacher Billy Lombardo's
short story "Shake Hands Like a Man" was
chosen for the Chicago Reader's 14th annual
fiction issue.
Upper school English teacher Ann McGlinn
published her first novel, El Penco, earlier this
year and has been selected to present at this year's
30th anniversary Printers Row Lit Fest.
Congratulations to Leroy Weinbrenner,
sworn in on April 12 as a Hall of Fame Coach
by e Illinois High School Scholastic Bowl
Coaches' Association.
