Latin's 3-year-old robotics team exceeded
all expectations again this year winning the
First Tech Challenge (FTC) Illinois State
Championship in February and then going
on to qualify and compete in the FTC World
Championship this spring.
As one of the smaller, less experienced
programs among the 128 teams that qualified
for the world championship – including some
from as far away as Saudi Arabia and the
Netherlands – Latin's Animatores Romani had
an exciting first run at the event, ultimately
placing 44th in their division of 64.
Each season, the robotics team designs,
builds and programs a robot that is expected
to perform specific tasks during competition.
Students commit countless hours to designing
and building a reliable machine and practicing
on a test course they assemble.

the top 32 Illinois teams to finish
as part of the first-place alliance
at the state competition. e
team went on to face off against
top teams from 11 other states at
the FTC North Super Regional
Championship and qualified for the
world championship at the Edward
Jones Dome in St. Louis in April.
Robotics Takes the World Stage
On Friday, April 25, the lower school opened its doors
to nearly 500 grandparents and friends for Grandpals
Day. Our special guests came from near and far,
making it a memorable and joyous day for all involved.
