l. how ed a hool ugh arly 60s. 1950-1959 1960-1969 1970-1979 Boys, Girls schools merge 1953 More than 10 years after it is first discussed, the boys and girls schools merge, keeping the boys' colors and mascot and most of the girls' curriculum. 1955 Latin earns its Cum Laude chapter, a mark of academic distinction. 1965 Headmaster John MacDougal Graham takes a public stand in support of welcoming students of color to Latin. Although there had been a small number of Asian-American students at the school since the late 1950s, Raymond Cyrus was the first African American student enrolled in the lower school in 1964. 1980-1989 1990-1999 First year of Nazi Mind, class retreats and sex education Project Week is launched and Finders Keepers, a school thrift shop is opened by the Parent Association to raise funds for Latin. 2006 1980 First Romans Run and Lower School Olympics The varsity girls soccer team wins the state championship. 1974 Uniforms are suspended in favor of a dress code and Live & Learn, Latin's longtime adult education program is started. 1956 First Lady visits Latin 1981 First Lady and Class of 1939 alumna Nancy Reagan visits Latin. A new state-of-the-art upper school science center opens on the fourth floor of 45 W. North Blvd. 2012 Latin establishes community service partnership with Uptown neighborhood.
