"Feedback from all constituents aligned with the Strategic Planning Team's vision to elevate and more clearly articulate the concept of Educational Excellence as inclusive of Academics, Co-Curriculars and Student Health and Wellness." We all want our students to learn, to feel challenged, AND to feel supported. Just about every point we gathered was directly in line with this commitment." This shared alignment provided a strong foundation for the strategic planning team's efforts, despite initial hurdles. For one, Latin truly embodies the Portrait of a Latin Learner characteristic of Curious Learner. "It's really hard for us to say no," Mx. Hansberry laughed. "It can be true that a personalized education is really important without saying yes to everything that comes through our door." We also didn't simply want to add on curriculum around core values like DEI and social justice. The Portrait of a Latin Learner has been a great example for us. As we were aligning JK–12, we used the Portrait as a lens through which we looked at our entire curriculum holistically. And we want to do the same for DEI, social justice, student health and wellness and Social Emotional Learning through this strategic plan. By spring, three strategic themes had bubbled up— Cultivating Educational Excellence, Fostering Engaged Community and Developing Talent and Resources. The team worked across the entire institution throughout the summer to identify specific objectives and projects, and settle on ownership of the work. And they started building the structures necessary to bring this plan to life. "There is a real appetite for working together, for breaking down silos," they said. "Now we just need to build streamlined systems so we can harness the enthusiasm people have for collaboration." "Latin has evolved so much since our 2019 strategic plan," said Hansberry. "The pandemic taught us how to think about the classroom and technology differently. New leadership has blended visionary ideas with Latin's core values. And yet, as always, our students have been at the center every step of the way. We're eager for all of our stakeholders to see how that comes to life in our new strategic plan." 15 A N N UA L R E P O R T 2 0 24 / 2 5
